The Grammy nominee met with the press last month during the PBS portion of the Television Critics Association along with series producer, David Horn, to talk about the project.
Here are some highlights from his TCA appearance:
- “Nas Live from the Kennedy Center: Classical Hip-Hop” will premiere February 2
- Nas says growing up he did not know if anyone outside his neighborhood knew about hip-hop. He connected with the musicians.
- Nas says the rehearsal process was very short. It happened faster than he thought it was. They thought about a tour but not sure when they would have time to do it.
- Nas says that hope that people will see something different when taping this performance. This show was part of the dream for him.
- Nas says that he had a good feeling that his music would work with the orchestra for the concert
“Illmatic” was Nas’ debut album that was released in 1994. The album features 10 tracks – “The Genesis,” “N.Y. State of Mind,” “Life’s a Bitch,” “The World Is Yours,” “Halftime,” “Memory Lane (Sittin’ in da Park),” “One Love,” “One Time 4 Your Mind,” “Represent,” and “It Ain’t Hard to Tell.”
