Oscars 2018: Alexandre Desplat wins the Oscar for Best Original Score for ‘The Shape of Water’

The 90th Oscars were held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and was televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscars were televised in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

The nominations for Achievement in Music Written For Motion Pictures (Original score) included:

“Dunkirk” by Hans Zimmer

The Shape of Water” by Alexandre Desplat

Phantom Thread” by Johnny Greenwood

Star Wars: The Last Jedi” by John Williams

“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” by Carter Burwell

The winner was Alexandre Desplat for “The Shape of Water.” 

“I’m very grateful to the Academy,” Desplat said in his acceptance speech. ” My mother is also turning 90 this year so I think she’d be very happy tonight. Guillermo, thank you. Thank you for letting the music be the voice of your characters and convey the beautiful melancholy of love.”
