‘American Idol’ Winner Iam Tongi Releases ‘Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride’ From ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Movie
“Lilo & Stitch,” the funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family, will open exclusively in theaters May 23, 2025. “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride,” from “Lilo & Stitch,” the upcoming live-action reimagining of the 2002 animated film. The new rendition of the song is performed by “American Idol” winner Iam Tongi and Kamehameha Schools Children’s Choir. The Hawaii native returns to the Idol stage to perform the song on the live Disney night show on May 12. “American Idol” airs live coast-to-coast on Sundays and Mondays on ABC.
Tongi is originally from Kahuku, Hawaii but the family had to relocated to Federal Way, Washington when he was in his early teens. Proficient on ukulele and piano by the fifth grade, he learned guitar at the age of 13 after receiving the instrument as a gift from his father.

The live-action reimagining of Disney’s 2002 animated classic, “Lilo & Stitch” is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the Oscar®-nominated filmmaker behind the animated feature film “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On,” with a screenplay by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes, and stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Chris Sanders, with Courtney B. Vance, and Zach Galifianakis, and introducing Maia Kealoha.
