‘American Music Awards’ 2025: Janet Jackson Performs and Receives Icon Award

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and philanthropist Janet Jackson received the prestigious Icon Award at the 2025 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS, an honor bestowed upon an artist whose music has had undeniable cultural and global influence over the music industry. The global phenomenon and 11-time American Music Award-winner will also take to the stage, marking her first television performance since 2018.

AMAs host Jennifer Lopez gave a nod to the Oscar nominee and Grammy winner by mentioning that Lopez got her start as one of Janet’s backup dancers in the “That’s The Way Love Goes” video. Jackson sang a medley of her hits, including “Someone To Call My Lover,” and “All For You” before accepting her award from friend Tasha Smith.

“I am so honored and so grateful. I mean, no disrespect in any way, but I don’t consider myself an icon,” Jackson said in her speech. “My family, myself, our dream was to… It wasn’t ever to be famous, we weren’t always like that. We always had a special love for music, dancing, and singing. Fame came with the result of hard work and dedication.”

Celebrating 50 years in the music industry, Jackson first appeared on stage with her famous family The Jacksons and superstar brother Michael, at age seven coincidentally in a Las Vegas Revue show.

The global superstar is now in the middle of her Las Vegas residency at Resorts World Theatre at Resorts World Las Vegas and has just extended it with six new shows, taking place later this summer, beginning Sept. 10. Tickets for the upcoming performances go on sale Friday, May 30, at 10 a.m. PT.
