Art Laboe was an American radio host, songwriter, record producer, and radio station owner credited with coining the term “Oldies but Goodies.” Beyond his musical achievements, Laboe was a pioneer of social change, using music as a force for unity. Through his legendary dance shows at the El Monte Legion Stadium, he played a key role in breaking down racial barriers in 1950s Los Angeles. His events welcomed teens of all backgrounds, especially from the Hispanic community, creating a rare and powerful space for togetherness in a segregated era.
