TVMusic Network remembers R & B singer Carl Carlton who died at the age of 72. His passing was announced by his son in a statement on social media. “RIP Dad, Legend Carl Carlton singer of She’s a Bad Mama Jama. Long hard fight in life and you will be missed,” Carlton Hudgens II said.

The R & B singer rose to success thee the 1980s and sang popular hits “She’s a Bad Mama Jama” and “Everlasting Love.” “She’s a Bad Mama Jama (She’s Built, She’s Stacked)” was a widely played  on radio with its catchy dance beat. The song, written by Leon Haywood and became a major hit, reaching the R & B Top 10 and earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male.

Carlton’s musical talent were first discovered as child when his voice was mistaken for the radio. “She’s a Bad Mama Jama” earned Carlton a gold record in 1981, staying at the Top 10, peaking at #2 for eight weeks straight, An album, “Carl Carlton,” was released with a front cover of a shirtless Carlton showing off his chiseled physique. The album went gold also. Such success afforded Carlton the opportunity to appear on such top-rated TV shows as Solid Gold, Soul Train, and American Bandstand.
