‘We Strangers’: Tales of A Messy Life
“We Strangers” is a movie described as a comedy and drama but it reads like a drama still trying to find its way.
Synopsis: In gritty Gary, Indiana, quick-witted cleaner Rayelle takes a strange new job that spirals into the surreal when she claims she can speak to the dead. As her lie spins into power, secrets, and chaos, Ray must decide how far she’ll go to hold onto control. We Strangers is a darkly funny, sharp slice-of-life story about identity, power, and the quiet lines that divide us.
“We Strangers,” written and directed by Anu Valia, the story of a Rayelle, a commercial cleaner who job interweaves with her clients personal lives when she begins cleaning her clients home. When one assumes she practices voodoo because of her “culture,” she goes along with it becoming a spiritual advisor. The second job takes a toll on her personal life.
Set in the Northwest Indiana town of Gary, Rayelle, her mother and her best friend live a realistic lifestyle for the area, accurately showing Ray’s night life, her days off and how it syncs in with her cleaning job.
The cast give touching performances that are understated and real. The seems highly realistic but could big deeper in story.
