The Oscars are making big changes when the ceremony moves to YouTube. The ceremony will move from the iconic Dolby Theater to LA Live at the Peacock Theater beginning with the 101st Oscars ceremony in 2029.

Additionally, L.A. LIVE’s recently expanded plaza will host red carpet arrivals and activities, and the theater will be the first venue to host the Oscars when it becomes available on YouTube through an exclusive global rights deal with the Academy, which also begins in 2029.
The Oscars will continue to be held at the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood and televised live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide through the 100th Oscars in 2028.
This isn’t the first move the ceremony has made in its 98 year history. Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel: Hosted the first Academy Awards in 1929, followed by Blossom Ballroom which held the ceremony several times in the 1930s. Other venues that held the Oscars were Biltmore Hotel: Hosted multiple ceremonies from the 1930s to the 1940s; Grauman’s Chinese Theatre: Served as a venue from 1944 to 1946; Shrine Auditorium: Hosted ceremonies from 1948 to 2001; Dolby Theatre: The current venue since 2002, known for its state-of-the-art facilities. The one difference of the Oscar ceremony when it was held at Union Station during the Covid pandemic.
