‘General Hospital’: Kelly Monaco leaving Emmy-winning show

Kelly Monaco is out at “General Hospital.” The two-time Emmy nominated actress’s exit is storyline depicted, according to Soap Opera Network, who reported the news exclusively. Monaco has been a fixture on the show for more than 21 years, 25 in all with ABC when she moved to “General Hospital” after appearing on ABC’s innovative soap “Port Charles” which ran on the network from 1997 to 2003.

The actress gained global popularity as the winner of the first season of “Dancing with the Stars” and the “Dancing with the Stars” All-Star season. Monaco was reportedly “blindsided” by the firing and as well as the decision to kill off her character Samantha McCall. She played the character for over 2,000 episodes.

“General Hospital” airs weekdays on ABC.
