Hung Up On A Dream: The Zombies Documentary

‘Hung Up On A Dream: The Zombies Documentary’ – Movie Review

Lost in the era of some of the 1960s most popular and influential music is The Zombies, a British band formed in the 6os. Their story is being told in the excellent music documentary “Hung Up On A Dream: The Zombies Documentary.” The original members of the band get together to discuss their career in front of and off the stage leading up to their ceremonious induction into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which the TVMusic Network editors attended.

Their name might not be familiar but a few of their songs are – “She’s Not There,” and “Time of the Season,” which were hits. The Zombies became the first band after The Beatles to have a self-written #1 song.

Their influence as producers, song writers and label executives, helped launch the careers of music artists Mr. Mister, Patty Smyth, ABBA, and Bruce Hornsby.

In the doc, The Zombies members, Colin Blunstone, Rod Argent, Hugh Grundy, and Chris White ,return to Abbey Road Studios where they recorded their album “Odessey and Oracle,” which is now a classic.  Through modern day interviews and clips of their performances, director Robert Schwartzman shows the friendship side of the band, as the documentary says, “Some groups of people just click. From all of their struggles they faced, they have never broken up as friends and still are to this day. That’s the real success.”

The documentary is a must see for music lovers who will love the history, nostalgia, and the charming members telling their story first hand.

Synopsis: In their first ever feature documentary nearly sixty years after they met as teenagers before the British Invasion music scene, THE ZOMBIES tell their story of navigating the tumultuous music industry over the decades and making one of the most influential albums of all time, Odessey and Oracle. “She’s Not There” made them the first British band after The Beatles to reach #1 in the US. After years of touring and many missteps in the 60s, sadly the band missed out on their biggest moment yet, when “Time of the Season” hit #1 and became a global success, inspiring new generations each year. The band looks back on their journey, where true friendship led them to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
