About On Paper
On Paper is about a young man trying to write his way out of a life that’s falling apart. Growing up, I believed that by my late 20s, I’d have it all figured out — career, success, happiness. But when life kicks you in the face (over and over), it gets harder to stay creative, or even believe the work you’re doing matters. This is more than a thriller. It’s about parenthood, repeated failures, and the pressure of chasing greatness while carrying the invisible weight of being a Black man expected to settle. It’s about being too broke to dream, too scared to quit, and too stubborn to give up. Jordan, our protagonist, loses the line between his reality and his writing. The killer he faces isn’t just a villain — it’s the physical embodiment of missed opportunities and dreams slipping away. Visually, I want to portray Jordan as if he’s trapped in a box, the walls inching closer with each decision he makes. The violence should feel real and unflinching — not stylized, but raw. To me, the real horror isn’t just the killings — it’s the way people are used as pawns in someone else’s desperate chase for meaning. At its heart, On Paper asks: can you rewrite your story before it’s too late?
The movie stars cast including Noah Abbott, Vernon Davis, Malika Blessing, TravQue, Jerrel O’Neal, Carrie Bernans, and G. Anthony Joseph.
Directed by Amanda Niqole and produced by Jaqueline Fleming, T. Bankolé, Vernon Davis, Chris Beal, and Shalina Murrell.
